We had already intended to re-imagine the brand to represent the service in a more recognisable way throughout the world – so, due to the imitators, a decision was reached to bring that move forward, and rename the brand to “My TV Abroad”.

We believe that a company needs to set itself apart from the rest. This move, along with the raft of new features being introduced in 2015, will firmly cement us in the forefront of the industry – and will leave the many inferior companies that have used similar names to Ex-Pat TV in our wake.

New Scottish & Welsh Channels

We have once again added to our ever expanding range of TV channels by launching our Scottish & Welsh TV service.  We have available BBC Alba, BBC One Wales, BBC Two Wales, ITV Wales and S4C which are all included in our UK package.  We have also added the content of the BBC “Red Button” service on Channel 655.  If you are looking at adding any of these Scottish or Welsh channels to your package then please contact us so we can add the channels to your service for you.

Track the New Astra Satellite

The new Astra Satellite is almost ready to launch with initial thoughts being early February 2014.  We fully expect some channels to start to drop away over the next few weeks so if you are in an area of Europe where you currently pick up British TV via the Astra satellite, then please get in touch with us to discuss how Ex-Pat TV can help.  Here you can track the Astra Satellite live to see exactly when it will reach its final position.  Ex-Pat TV will NOT be affected by the changes to the Astra Satellite as we do not rely on it for our pictures, so existing subscribers will see no difference in their viewing.

 Winter Olympics coverage

With the Winter Olympics starting on 7^th February the BBC have added 6 new channels to supplement their coverage of the games.  Ex-Pat TV has access to all 6 of these channels and so will be adding them to the service free of charge for all additional subscribers.  You can read about the BBC’s coverage of the games here.

United States of America
Last month we installed our new state of the art server system in California enabling access to the US Television channels. If you are looking at obtaining US channels please contact us so we can provide you with our current channel list and any updates we will have in the future.

UK and Ireland

We have also updated our UK servers to bring more UK and Irish TV channels to you around the world. As our technology improves we are able to bring more and more of the Irish channels to you and we are busy working behind the scenes to keep improving our Irish offering. Scandinavia
Our Scandinavian service is now fully operational and we have scores of TV channels available for you across a wide range of different packages. This month we want to talk about Ex-Pat TV and its position in the market place for IPTV services for Ex-Pats around the world. We want to do this because in the last 4 – 5 weeks, we have been consistently asked a very similar set of questions from our customers and dealers which we are keen to clarify.

There has been a lot of buzz lately surrounding the influx of suppliers to the marketplace offering what seems like a similar package to Ex-Pat TV and making similar claims as to the strength of the service being offered. So, we have taken the time to provide a brief summary of the questions we have been posed with and a set of answers to these questions. We would also like to invite our newsletter recipients to ask any other questions they may have about Ex-Pat TV which we will publish in the August newsletter. If you have a question which you do not wish to be published, please indicate this in your email.

How can other providers offer a similar service for a much smaller fee?
They can’t. This is the single biggest topic of conversation which we have been involved with recently. We here at Ex-Pat TV have invested significant amounts of resource into our IPTV service both in terms of cash and time. We have developed a system which is capable of carrying IPTV from the UK at 0.5mbps to all corners of the world. We have also purchased equipment from every other operator we have ever come across in the IPTV market and have not found a single provider other than ourselves capable of operating at this low level.

This explains the second big debate – PRICE!! In order to upload pictures in the manner that we do so that they do not buffer and are streamed without any interruption, we have had to install a Broadband uplink service so fast and sophisticated that the unit cost per subscriber is GREATER THAN the price that many other service providers are charging for the monthly fee. Sounds ridiculous? Well, it is!

To upload pictures onto this kind of service and to stream them around the globe is an expensive business. We have positioned servers now in 7 locations around the globe to support this bandwidth speed requirement meaning that we can supply an infinite number of subscribers with UK, Greek, US and Scandinavian Television pictures anywhere on earth. There is not another service provider in the world offering UK TV direct to a Set top box that has yet got close to this. Which is why, we never have “outage periods”, we never get buffering, and we never get customers sending equipment back because it doesn’t work!

I know we have not answered the question actually posed yet, and the above analysis doesn’t really help, but the truth is, it is not difficult to find feeds of UK TV and other terrestrial TV providers for that matter, and re-use them around a Virtual Private Network. The two problems with it are that the feeds are not their own, meaning they do not have any control over them, and there is only a finite number of subscribers you can put on such a network before the system starts to stall and the customers get a product which they cannot use.

Cheapest is not best.

Does Ex-Pat TV have any other names?
We have been posed this question recently by a number of dealers wishing to know if other companies were operating around the world as dealers of ours but using different names and charging different prices. Ex-Pat TV has an Approved Dealer Network around the world for which anyone is allowed to apply for status. However, there are two very important stipulations to being a member of our Dealer Network. Firstly, all of our dealers who sell our services do so at the same price that the services are advertised on our website. Secondly, all of our dealers sell our product under the banner of Ex-Pat TV. No dealer has or currently does operate under ANY other name. So, if it sounds similar to our name or web address or looks like the same marketing literature, it is NOT us, it is yet another service provider following in our footsteps.

Over the last few months we have been getting lots of interesting questions from our clients and prospective clients so we have decided this month to give you a full lowdown of the most important questions which have been posed to us.

Smart TV Apps
We have had many people come to us and ask whether or not an App is available for Ex-Pat TV for use on Smart TV’s. The short answer is, yes, there is. We currently have an App available for the Samsung Smart TV which is available to download through your Television set. Apps for other TV manufacturers are currently in progress and should be ready in the next 2 months. We will update you next month when they will hopefully all be ready. With this App you will only need to subscribe to the Ex-Pat TV channels, meaning you do not need to purchase a receiver.

NEW Ex-Pat TV Set top box
Speaking of receivers, our new receivers are fresh off the production line and we have now taken delivery of them to our warehouse. If you would like to view the new receiver or order one, please email us.

Already have a Set Top Box from elsewhere?
We have been asked a lot recently about our service working on Set top boxes provided by third parties where the box was bought for another service or the pictures are of inferior quality to Ex-Pat TV. The good news is we can activate our service for you on any Mag-250 receiver. We may also be able to activate other Set top boxes for you. If you would like to find out if yours can be activated, please email telling us the manufacturer and model of your set top box.

Hotel service
We are constantly updating our service for hotels and apartments complexes so the Ex-Pat TV service can be viewed by more people around the world. We have some major worldwide hotel chains taking up the Ex-Pat TV service to show UK TV to their guests. Our newest hotel group to join is the Ibis (currently is use at Ibis Hotel Rhodes).

Adult channels
Some clients have asked us if we have any Adult channels available on the Ex-Pat TV service. We do have them; however as we like to maintain a level of discretion, we have not added them to our website. The three channels we have added are Asian babes; Adult mix and Hot spice and these are available for an additional £9.99 per month. If you would like to receive these channels, please email us and we will be happy to add them to your subscription.

We have now updated our packages so you can choose between our Basic and Premium packs of UK TV channels. Our basic channel package comprises BBC1, BBC1, ITV1, Channel 4, Channel 5, BBC News 24 and CBeebies and is only £19 per month. Our Premium package is priced at just £29 per month and comprises of the Basic pack, plus over 30 extra TV channels and 12 radio stations. Low Broadband Speed Requirement
Due to the poor broadband connections in some parts of the world we have downrated the required bandwidth of Standard Definition channels to just 0.5Mb.
